Erling Haaland scored a brace and Orjan Nyland saved a penalty as Norway downed five-time champions Brazil 2-1 to book a place in the World Cup quarter-finals, where they will face either Mexico or England.

Erling Haaland scored twice as Norway beat five-time World Cup champions Brazil 2-1 and advanced to the quarterfinals.

Manchester City striker Haaland headed Norway into the lead on 79 minutes and then crashed in a second in the 90th minute at the MetLife Stadium to bury Brazil’s hopes of a sixth World Cup crown.

And that’s that, Nyland and Haaland have done it for Norway!

The Manchester City striker headed Norway into the lead on 79 minutes and then crashed in a second in the 90th minute at the MetLife Stadium to bury Brazil’s hopes of a sixth World Cup crown.

But it’s arguably the keeper who deserves the most credit, having saved a penalty among other heroics.

A loose ball spins towards the top corner but the retreating Norway keeper somehow tips onto the post.

Schjelderup whips in an excellent cross. Gabriel is, for once, a fraction late and the Norwegian giant finds the far corner with a powerful header.

Schjelderup is served by Haaland in the Brazil area but his shot his punched away by Alisson at the near post.

Having said that, Norway suddenly have two good chances of their own!

Alisson gets just ahead of Haaland to fingertip away a dangerous cross, and then the Manchester City is inches short of deflecting a second cross that slides across goal.

The keeper comes to Norway’s rescue, again.

The first blocks a Rayan volley and the second deflects Guimaraes’s close-range effort.

Brazil have the upper hand now.

What a miss!

A terrific Vinicius through-ball sends the sub clear on goal but his second touch his too long and he rushes his shot, which drifts left of goal.

Brazil are sitting back rather a lot, and their fans disapprove.

But Ancelotti presumably has a plan.
