War hawk Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) continues to push the idea that attacking Iran’s energy infrastructure should be the next step in the war, even as President Donald Trump says he’s on the verge of a peace deal.

While on a recent Meet the Press appearance, the senator said peace discussions have “hit a wall” and that the U.S. must continue to weaken Iran to reach a conclusion.

“There’s still more targets to be had. And there’s things we can do to hurt,” Graham said. “The energy infrastructure is their soft underbelly. If you go back to the fight, I’d put energy on top of the list.”

Graham reinforced what he was saying when Kristen Welker of NBC asked for clarification if he was calling for the U.S. to strike Iran’s infrastructure.

“Yeah, I’m calling to hurt this regime,” he said. “If you do the same old thing, you’re going to get the same result. Hurt them more. Maybe they’ll make a deal if you hurt them enough. But right now, I think they’re trying to wait us out. I think they’re playing games. And in the words of the president, I think they’re crazy.”

Prior to Graham’s comments, the president had threatened similar actions throughout the conflict. In March, a 48-hour deadline was set to open the Strait of Hormuz, or the U.S. would attack “various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST!”

Trump has also threatened Iran’s oil wells, desalination plants, which are necessary for survival in the region, and power plants. Experts in international law consider attacks on civilian infrastructure to be a war crime.

Following Trump’s comments, Iran threatened to attack the civilian infrastructure of Gulf nations.

“I think the status quo is hurting us all. The longer the Strait is closed, the more we try to pursue a deal that never happens, the stronger Iran gets,” Graham said. “So my analysis is there’s nothing to suggest that the people in charge now are any different in terms of the regime’s goal to terrorize the world, destroy Israel, come after us.”

Graham’s Democratic opponent in the ’26 midterms, Dr. Annie Andrews, recently told uPolitics: “And the truth of the matter is, I know that South Carolina deserves better than Lindsey Graham. He is really the epitome of a career, corrupt, cowardly politician who doesn’t stand for anything. And I am the opposite of that. I am a pediatrician and a mom of three who’s concerned about the future of South Carolina and the future of this country. So Lindsey Graham does not deserve to just coast back to another six-year term in the U.S. Senate. He’s already been there for 23 years, and he has failed by every objective measure.”
