In a nation plagued by political division, even discussions that seem to be created as a point of humor become contentious. Questions, including how Americans think they would match up to President Donald Trump, 79, in a physical fight, break sharply across political lines.

During a recent White House event about physical fitness, Trump asked a young boy, “You think you could take me in a fight?”

This inspired polling firm YouGov to ask 2,609 individuals if they believed they could beat Trump in a fight, whether the average person could, and if a generic 8-year-old boy could beat the president, who is 6’3 and turning 80 in June, in a fight.

Among Democrats, 75% believe they would win a fight with Trump, while only 5% believe the president would win. The percentages are much closer across the aisle – 39% of Republicans believe he would win the fight, compared with 33% of Democrats.

Even as the president’s popularity hits record lows, the poll shows the intense feelings Republicans have for Trump.

The poll shows that, on average, 55% of Americans think they would win a fight with Trump, with 19% thinking they would lose.

When posed with a theoretical matchup between the president and an 8-year-old boy, the answer continues to fall along politically-affiliated lines, with 54% of Democrats saying the 8-year-old would win, compared to just 6% of Republicans.

When asking Americans over the age of 65, YouGov reported that 46% believed they could beat Trump in a fight, compared to 26% handing victory to the president.
